The Krause 5400 Series Folding Grain Drills offer the unique
versatility of seeding in conditions ranging from clean tilled
to no-till. And in sizes from 25 feet to 36 feet, the
5400 Series covers big acres fast! When it's time to transport
from one field to the next, the 5400's narrow, 12'10"
roading width and convenient "from the cab" hydraulic
folding save you time. Exclusive "walking beam tandems"
on the center frame smooth roading and improve field performance
in uneven ground.
Krause offers two superior opener designs for the 5400 Series...
the rugged High-Residue, parallel linkage opener for minimum
to no-till conditions or the exclusive Precision Opener with
front depth gauging wheel for unmatched depth control accuracy
in conventional to minimum till conditions.
Choose the 5400's High-Residue parallel linage opener when
you need the flexibility to seed in almost any condition from
clean tilled to untilled. This rugged parallel link opener
features a heavy ductile iron casting connected to the drill
frame via 4, 11/2" x 1 1/2" steel parallel link
arms that provide a full 10" of vertical travel. The
parallel link opener utilizes one 16" notched coulter
mounted at a slight angle to cut residue and begin opening
the seed trench. Following the leading blade is a 13 1/2"
smooth disc blade which finished opening and forming the seed
trench.
Krause offers the patented Precision Opener on the 5400
Series for situations where precise depth control is preferred
over high residue handling ability. The Precision Opener
is an unbeatable choice for small grains, alfalfa, grain sorghum
etc. seeded into conventional or minimum till situations.
A 4" x 12" chevron tread depth gauging wheel in
front of the double disc opener, followed by an adjustable
depth press wheel, allows the Precision Opener to traverse
uneven terrain while maintaining precise seeding depth control.
Only the Precision Opener can gauge depth accurately and consistently
for shallow seeded crops like alfalfa.

Heavy-Duty 6" diameter rocker shaft provides load carrying
strength for the 5400. Automatic road locks add an additional
measure of safety when transporting. Adjustable depth stops
on the main frame allow fine tuning for hard or soft ground
conditions.
Wing drive wheels are big 31 x 13.5-15" for added
flotation in soft or powdery soils. The center drive wheel
floats while the wing drive wheels feature a turnbuckle adjustment
that allows the operator to vary tilled conditions the drive
wheels can be set to carry some of the drills weight, while
in untilled conditions weight can be taken off the wheels
to transfer more of the drill weight to the openers.
Krause's exclusive "Cam-Stop" depth control accurately
sets seeding depth in 1/4" increments. Depth changes
are made by simply moving a spring loaded lever located conveniently
at the rear of each opener. The "Cam-Stop" adjustment
can't "freeze up" and eliminates variance between
the row settings.
The 5400's High-Residue parallel link opener offers superior
residue cutting and penetration ability. The smooth disc
trails the notched coulter by 2 1/2" for aggressive performance
in standing crop residues. The parallel link openers are mounted
from two separate frame beams with a generous 13" stagger
for excellent residue flow through.
A new exclusive feature on 5400 Series drills is the addition
of massive walking beam tandem wheels on the center frame.
Walking tandems add field performance in uneven ground and
outperform side by side duals when transporting the drill.
Dual hydraulic markers are available that fold flat when
not in use. Shear bolts allow the markers to "break
away" to avoid serious damage if an obstruction is encountered.
A 14" notched blade with depth band is standard equipment.
